Journey to Becoming a Doula
Journey to Becoming a Doula
I am Yasmine. Pronounced (yaz-meen). Since I was a young girl, I’ve always been fascinated by the miracle of birth. That natural curiosity turned into a deep passion when I became pregnant with my first child in 2021. Determined to have an unmedicated birth, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about the childbirth process.
As I grew in knowledge and confidence, I naturally found myself supporting friends through their own births by offering guidance, encouragement, and evidence based information. Many of them went on to have empowering birth experiences, including short labors and successful breastfeeding journeys, even when the odds were stacked against them.
During my second pregnancy in 2023, I discovered what a doula was and realized I had already been one in practice. That moment was transformative. I dove deeper into birth work, earned my Virginia state certification, and proudly became the first doula in Culpeper and surrounding counties to accept Medicaid.
Being a doula isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am. I believe every birthing person deserves compassionate, informed, and empowering support, no matter their background or circumstances. It’s my honor to walk beside families through one of life’s most powerful transitions.
